Call For Papers

2003 Summer Computer Simulation Conference (SCSC'03)

The focus of SCSC 2003 is on World Wide Usage of Advanced Simulation.  Modeling and Simulation (M&S) is a very critical area for supporting Research and Development, as well as competitiveness, worldwide.  New technologies are enabling new uses of M&S and increasing its impact in new areas. SCSC'03 provides an International Forum for presenting the State of the Art in the International Simulation Community as well as the Effectiveness of Simulation Experiences in World Businesses.

Several topical perspectives will serve to illuminate the evolution of the modeling and simulation community. All submissions will be reviewed based on the draft full paper and/or extended abstract.  The best overall papers, as selected by the Conference Committee, will be considered for possible publication in a special issue of an International Journal.

The list of topics includes (but is not limited to):

Paper Submission

Extended abstracts (4-6 pages), full draft papers or other proposals should be submitted for the review process as a PDF file to the http://scs.proceedingscentral.com/ site by February 3, 2003. Each extended abstract must include the title, authors, affiliations, addresses, references and summary (4-6 pages) for proper positioning in the conference. Only original papers, written in English, which have not been published previously elsewhere will be accepted. Please indicate which conference topic is most appropriate, listing first and second choices. Notifications of acceptance status will be sent on April 12, 2003.

Please note that in case of acceptance  your final manuscript will need to be submitted electronically as a PDF file to the http://scs.proceedingscentral.com/ site by May 9, 2003 to guarantee inclusion in the conference CD and final program. Authors of accepted papers are expected to attend the conference, present their work to their peers, transfer copyright, and pay a conference registration fee at the time their camera-ready paper is submitted.

Key Dates

Full Draft Paper / Extended Abstracts Due    February 28, 2003
Preliminary Notification of Acceptance April 12, 2003
Final Camera-Ready Submission Due May 9, 2003

Affiliated & Co-Located Events

Student Workshop. The Student Workshop is devoted to PhD Students, Master Students and Undergraduates willing to submit a paper/poster to be presented during SCSC2003; the selected papers will be included in the Conference CD only (not in Proceedings Hardcopy) and will compete for the Best Student Paper Award. A special registration fee is reserved for Students (Student ID and Professor Check Required).
Chairs: Peter Kropf, University of Montreal; Ling Rothrock, Penn State University
SIMPLEST Workshop: Technical Council for Simulation Applications in Management, Planning & Forecasting. The Workshop of the Technical Council for Applications in Management, Planning and Forecasting invites you to submit draft full papers and to participate on the panel session of this new Technical Council of SCS, for setting up Cooperations and Projects.
Contact Person: Marina Massei, Liophant Simulation Club
LESNEX (LEan Simulation Network of Excellence) Workshop. The LESNEX Workshop focuses on the development of the Lean Simulation as a new approach for applying M&S techniques into Small and Medium Size Enterprises as well as during early state evaluation in large programs.
Contact Person: Stefano Saetta, University of Perugia
Standards Workshop. This special SCSC 2003 workshop includes paper sessions as well as panel sessions; this initiative is part of a new series of "M&S Standards" focused panel discussions to be held at multiple simulation events (e.g. SISO, SCS, ITEC, I/ITSEC). The panel session will last approximately two hours and will have a standard format involving panel discussions addressing mid-term modeling and simulation standards needs. The panel discussions will be followed by audience discussion and feedback. Results from each of the sessions will be compiled and briefed back to the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO) to advocate modeling and simulation community priorities to leadership in government, industry and academia.
Contact Persons: Steve Swenson, USA; Peggy Gravitz, USA

For submissions and contributions to a specific workshop please contact the Contact Person directly or submit the paper via the http://scs.proceedingscentral.com/ site and indicate which workshop the paper is for.
